Dziezgowski scores 1,000th point in Bethel Park’s 49-38 win

Bethel Park senior Maddie Dziezgowski netted her 1,000th career point as the Hawks kept their perfect season alive with a 49-38 win at home Monday night against Upper St. Clair.

It was a very sloppy start to the game and after a quarter Bethel Park led 10-6. In the second quarter the Hawks got after it defensively outscoring Upper St. Clair 10-3 and took a 20-9 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, Upper St. Clair got into a rhythm offensively scoring 18 points behind four Mia Brown 3-pointers and cut the lead to two with 30 seconds left. That is when Dziezgowski sunk a mid-range jumper to score points 999 and 1,000 point and give the Hawks a 31-27 lead and the momentum back.

Bethel Park pulled away in the fourth quarter outscoring Upper St. Clair 18-11 and winning the game 49-38.

Dziezowski was named PlayerPager Player of the Game scoring 16 points. Olivia Westphal added 17 points for Bethel Park.

Brown finished with 14 points for the Panthers, 12 of them in the second half. Molly James added nine points and Alexandra Prunzik had eight points.

Bethel Park improves to 9-0 in Section 2-6A and 14-0 overall. The Hawks will head to Mt. Lebanon on Thursday in another big Section 2-6A game at 7:30 p.m.

Upper St. Clair falls to 6-4 in Section 2-6A and 9-5 overall. The Panthers will be right back here at Bethel Park on Saturday where they take on North Catholic at the Joey Fabus Memorial Classic at 2 p.m.
