Friday night’s Section 1-6A showdown between Butler and Pine-Richland had the makings of a game that was going to come down to the last shot, and that it did.

With the game tied 74-74, Butler sophomore Ethan Morton dribbled down the court and threw up a contested 3-pointer that found the back of the net to give the Golden Tornado a 77-74 road win. In the process, Butler jumped Pine-Richland for second place in the section.

Butler held a 48-43 lead at halftime, but had to comeback and score the final five points of the game in the final minute after they trailed 74-72. The Golden Tornado and Rams have now split the season series, with both teams winning on the road.

Morton led Butler with a triple-double, scoring 31 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Also scoring in double figures for Butler was senior Luke Michalek with 16 points and senior Tarik Taoufik with 10 points. Junior Dan Petcash led Pine-Richland with 25 points.

The win improves Butler’s record to 15-2 and 7-2 and are a half-game ahead of Pine-Richland for second place in the section. The Golden Tornado will host North Allegheny on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Pine-Richland drops to 13-4 and 6-2. The Rams had their six-game winning streak snapped and will look to start a new one against Ambridge at the Pittsburgh Classic at Montour today at 4:30 p.m.
