Butler Sinks Seneca Valley, 80-66

Ethan Morton scored 33 points, 19 of them in the second half as Butler ran past Seneca Valley, 80-66, in a Section 1-6A game Tuesday night.

Seneca Valley came out strong in the first quarter with a ton of energy, controlling the game and getting out to a 19-17 lead. In the second quarter, Butler seized control of the game outscoring Seneca Valley, 24-15, in the quarter and led at the half 41-34.

Seneca Valley hung around in the second half, cutting the lead to six with four minutes left in the third quarter but Morton took over the rest of the quarter, and Butler had a 62-53 lead heading into the fourth. Seneca Valley continued to fight in the fourth quarter but could never get the lead back to single digits and Butler won the game, 80-66.

For his efforts, Morton was named the PlayerPager Player of the Game. Mattix Clement, son of head coach Matt Clement chipped in 18 points while Devin Carney added 12.

Mason Bush led Seneca Valley in scoring with 29 points. Cole Brooks hit five three-pointers and finished with 17 points of his own. Connor Lyczek added 11.

The win improve Butler to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in Section 1-6A. Big non-conference game for the Golden Tornado on Saturday as they take on Penn Hills, the No. 1 team in 5A, at the MLK Weekend Showcase at Woodlands Hills. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

The loss drops Seneca Valley to 1-11 and 0-5 in Section 1-6A play. Next up for the Raiders will be Central Catholic at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a Section 1-6A game.
