Boys’ Soccer: Class 4A Quarterfinal Preview

The WPIAL quarterfinals of the Class 4A boys’ soccer will get underway tonight, with the top team’s still competing for a spot to make it to the final four. Below are previews of each game

Peters Township (15-0-1) vs. Butler (14-5) At Moon (8 p.m.)

The Indians are the favorite in this matchup and moving forward as the only team without a loss in Class 4A this season. The No. 1 ranked team moved into the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win against Fox Chapel. Butler, who finished third in their section in the regular season, defeated Penn-Trafford 2-0 at Norwin in the first round. This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Pine-Richland (12-4-1) vs. Seneca Valley (11-3-2) At Hampton (8 p.m.)

The two section 1 rivals will face off in the rubber match, with both teams winning on the road this season. On September 19, the Raiders defeated the Rams, 1-0. The Rams returned the favor on October 5 with a 2-0 victory. Pine-Richland advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win in overtime over Central Catholic. Seneca Valley defeated Allderdice, 1-0, in the first round.

North Allegheny (16-2-1) vs. Upper St. Clair (7-9) At Moon (6 p.m.)

Both the Tigers and Panthers advanced to the second round with narrow overtime wins in the first round. At home, North Allegheny struggled to find the back of the net on numerous chances against Connellsville, but finally was able to break through for the 1-0 win. Upper St. Clair went a different route, going on the road and coming away with a 2-1 win at Plum. This will be the second meeting of the season for the two, with North Allegheny winning 1-0 at Upper St. Clair.

Franklin Regional (16-2) vs. Canon-McMillan (11-6) At Gateway (8 p.m.)

The Panthers are on an eight-game winning streak heading into their quarterfinal matchup with the Big Macs. Their latest win was a 2-1 win against Mt. Lebanon in the first round. Canon-McMillan pulled out a 2-1 win in overtime at Norwin and will be looking to take down its second Section 4 opponent of the playoffs. This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
