Alumni Update – Mars’ John Castello

John Castello averaged a double-double of 20.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Raiders, as Shippensburg University won on the road at Millersville University for the first time in three seasons and then defeated Kutztown University by 15.

Castello shot 55 percent from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point range, and was perfect (14 of 14) at the free-throw line. At Millersville, Castello scored a game-high 21 points, shooting 8 of 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range. He also added a game-high nine rebounds. It was his third game this season and the seventh time in his career that Castello exceeded the 20-point mark.

Against Kutztown, Castello notched his seventh double-double of the season and the 24th of his career with 19 points and 11 rebounds while equaling a career high with three steals. Castello went 12 of 12 at the free-throw line, tying the second-best rate at the free-throw line in a single game by an SU player. Prior to Saturday, Castello’s most free throws made in a game was five, achieved on four occasions.

The Mars graduate was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week for his performance.
